Professional Counseling from a Christian Perspective
I’d love to tell you the story of how One Hope Counseling came to be. A little back story. I had fallen behind on my documentation, like, Waaaay behind. It is not an exaggeration to say that I had hundreds of unfinished or unsigned progress notes and diagnostic assessments. Paperwork had always been a challenge to me, as it is for many counselors and therapists.

I had been employed by Crossroads Counseling Centers, Inc. for about 5 years when the owner made the decision to sell his practice to a larger agency. Because I had been so far behind in my documentation, I had actually begun to take part in a “paperwork catch-up” group online that January. What a treasure that was!
One day, I shared in the group that my boss had made the decision to sell but that I wasn’t feeling settled about joining the new agency. A group member asked, “Why don’t you go out on your own?” My response was, “because I'm really tired.” However, I prayed about it later on. I said “Lord, if I'm supposed to do this, you're going to have to come up with the name because I don't have time to think about it. Oh, and it has to have the word ‘hope’ in it.”
The following day I was doing some paperwork and the words “One Hope Counseling” came to mind. I said outloud, “OK I'll do it.”
That night I told my husband about it. He had always encouraged me to start my own practice. He said, “I don't know, the name doesn't really ring for me.” I said, “Well, God gave it to me so it's not changing.”
I was listening to music while getting ready to go to town the next morning, and the second song that played was Hope Darst singing “Don’t Let Go,” (with lyrics that say
“Hold onto hope and don't let go.”) My new devotional was about hope, and when I got in the car to drive to town, Phil Wickham was singing “Living Hope.”
Looking up, I told God, “I hear you!” "I felt an overwhelming sense of purpose and couldn’t wait to get started!
One Hope Counseling opened its doors on June 13, 2022 and it has been an honor and a privilege to serve the Alexandria area (and beyond) ever since.
Be Blessed!
